Jamie Marshall is a photographer, based in Brighton. As a well-established travel and location photographer, Jamie has spent the past 30 years pursuing a career in photography that has taken him to some of the highest, lowest, driest, hottest, wettest and wildest parts of the globe. As well as having been published in hundreds of travel guidebooks over the years, his spectacular images have been used worldwide by most major magazine and newspaper publishers including National Geographic, Life Magazine, The Times, New York Times, Conde Naste Traveler and Wall Street Journal. His work has also appeared in international advertising campaigns by some of the worlds largest and most respected companies, charitable bodies and institutions.
With degrees in geography and cultural anthropology, Jamie is passionate about travel and exposing the beauty and texture of people and places worldwide. For two decades he has also engaged in a long-term project documenting ethnographic textiles.
Jamie has travelled to Japan extensively over the past 20+ years and has a half Japanese daughter.
"I like to shoot all sorts of material, but will never turn away from something that has the power to lift the spirit. Visual imagery can have immense power and influence and is too often the messenger bringing scenes of death and destruction into our lives. One cannot deny that war, famine and disaster are more common than anyone would like, but that even in the poorest places people generally find at least some happiness in their everyday lives. Although materially poor, many people are culturally and spiritually rich, and there is always room for joy, love and friendship."
